Image Compressor

Make an image smaller for the web or email — optionally resize it, then compress it down and see exactly how much file size you saved. It all runs right here in your browser, so your images are never uploaded and stay completely private.

Private by design: your image is compressed entirely in your browser using<canvas> — it's never uploaded to us or anyone else.

Use — Guide

How to use this tool

  1. Drop an image onto the upload area, or click "browse" to choose one — PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF are supported, up to ~30 MB.
  2. Choose your output format: JPG for smallest files, WebP for best web compression, or PNG for lossless quality.
  3. Drag the Quality slider to balance file size against image quality — lower means smaller files. Quality only affects JPG and WebP.
  4. Optionally enter a Max Width/Height to resize the image — the longest edge is capped at that value and the aspect ratio is preserved.
  5. Compare the Before and After previews and note your savings percentage.
  6. Click "Download compressed image" to save the result directly to your device.

FAQ — Questions

Frequently asked questions

01Are my images uploaded to your server?

No — everything happens in your browser using the HTML Canvas API. Your image is never sent to our servers or any third party. It stays entirely on your device and remains completely private.

02What image formats are supported?

You can open PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF files. The compressed output can be saved as JPG, WebP or PNG.

03Why does PNG sometimes come out larger?

PNG is a lossless format, so the Quality slider has no effect on it. If your original is a JPG or WebP and you re-save it as PNG, the file size can increase significantly. For smaller files, use JPG or WebP instead.

04My site still feels slow — can Peritus help?

Compressing individual images is a good start, but a genuinely fast site needs correctly sized and formatted images served efficiently, alongside clean code and reliable hosting. Our Newcastle team builds websites where performance is baked in from day one — explore our web design services or get in touch.

Slow, heavy website?

We build fast websites where images are already optimised.

Oversized images are the number-one cause of slow pages. Our Newcastle team builds sites that compress, resize and serve images the right way automatically — so every page loads fast and ranks better. Plain-English advice, fixed quotes.
